Ochsner Sport: Optimization and transparency in the translation process
by Marguerite Meyer
With a total of 85 branches the established Ochsner Sport is Switzerland’s largest sportswear retailer. Since its beginnings in 1961, it has shaped the Swiss sporting world significantly. Language Box supported the successful company with consultancy service – and, with the help of a detailed business analysis, was able to show where the language processes could be designed more efficiently. Language Box also conducted a quality and cost analysis as well as audited the collaboration with the external language service provider.
Transparency as the first step to best practice
Companies often struggle with understanding the purchased language services, their output and the resulting costs – despite having good internal knowledge and/or instructions from the language service provider. This is why it is crucial to not only analyze the own processes, but also those of the language service provider – and to break them down in a way that leaner processes can be created.
After an in-depth as-is analysis and based on several recommendations, Language Box demonstrated where unnecessary in-between steps can be eliminated – with regard to internal text processing and in collaboration with the external language service provider, among other things.
Quality analysis and cost optimization
The quality assessment of a translation can pose a challenge for many purchasing clients who don’t have any or limited knowledge of the target language(s). This is also the reason why collaboration with external language service providers is oftentimes based on pure trust. This does not have to be the case. In collaboration with independent linguists, Language Box conducted a quality analysis of individual product texts in the most important language versions and demonstrated solutions for increased text quality.
Trust, but verify!
Language Box stands for full transparency. Accordingly, transparency was the guiding principle when it came to the analysis of the agreements with the external language service providers. And there is ample reason for this: fair and clearly defined agreements don’t only provide protection to both parties, but also enable long-term collaboration and trust. According to this motto, the existing agreements with the external language service provider were checked and reworked. This led to the creation of a seamless framework agreement which served as the basis for the requirement specification.
Roland Matter, deputy head of e-commerce, was very content with the services delivered by Language Box:
"Bringing along a lot of know-how, Language Box helped us with the evaluation of the right language service provider, taking all relevant factors into account – not just the price per word."
Thanks to Language Box, Ochsner Sport AG is now instructed and equipped in such a manner that no more obstacles stand in the way of further entrepreneurial decisions.
